Sign in to vote. I am having problems installing Windows 10 on a new hard drive. I had to force shut down by holding the power button and tried rebooting and it continually froze at that same spot every time. I am able to open BIOS but after doing everything I could in BIOS to try and fix the problem it just keeps freezing at the motherboard logo or saying please select a proper boot device and try again.
I tried using the Microsoft media creation tool to use a USB to reinstall Windows 10 and try to boot fresh but all that happens is the Windows logo comes up and dots start spinning but then the dots freeze and it does not move from there. I have tried letting it sit there for multiple hours and nothing happens. I have also tried resetting the CMOS and only using one RAM stick but it always does the same thing and I now also have a brand new hard drive that has never been used before that I have all the same problems with.
I do not have another desktop, just a laptop that I used to create the USB installation device. Unfortunately I do not have a Windows install disc because I was never sent one from ibuypower and I don't have a any blank discs big enough to burn an install onto. I am hoping I won't have to take it in to a repair shop because I don't have the money for that. Friday, February 16, AM. Austin M B. Tuesday, February 20, PM. I don't know if you are aware of the fact that newer motherboards can use two different types of BIOS UEFI and Legacy You might try opening Boot Options at the manufacturer's screen with F9, F11, F12, or whatever your machines uses and select your flash drive from there It is possible that your machine will automatically switch from UEFI to Legacy, or vice versa, depending on the selection of the installation media, but maybe not It is also possible that your CPU or motherboard has a bent pin or two causing a problem That has happened to me before more than once Even with new stuff..
It gets through POST just fine and I can navigate uefi, the problem occurs right after the first Windows logo when i try to boot from the USB, where it either freezes Asus or repeatedly restarts ASRock depending on which motherboard i use. I am not mixing the ram, but testning them apart. You want to pick the options Not download for the machine in use I know the previous owner ran it with an overclock. It my be having a problem addressing the memory for instance That is a tough one to diagnose without a spare CPU I know you have said that you reset the CMOS If you have made memory changes since then, you might want to do it again When I decided to put the original back in and save the newer for spare, I encountered problems similar to what you are describing..
Something else I just thought of Make sure there is not any thermal paste on the CPU's connectors Another possibility is that your Power Supply is of insufficient capacity or has a bad connection If this is being used on both MBs anyway Choose where you want to search below Search Search the Community.
